I was born in Turin and completed my studies in Venice. From a very early age I tried a large variety of jobs and lived in very different places, always attempting to adapt to the situation and to what I could find there. I lived in Venice, Udine, Rome, Turin, London, Lyon, Djibouti, Mauritania, Belgium and currently in the Netherlands.
I am a solar architect and while working in
Africa I applied techniques that would naturally contrast the severe climate.
Djibouti is one of the toughest countries in the world in terms of its temperature
and extremely high humidity. I lived there for three and a half years and
I wrote a book: “Un’Estate Senza Tregua” (roughly “an
endless summer”).
Then there was Mauritania, another harsh country because of its particular
culture and lifestyle, but in conversion I discovered the beauty and philosophy
of the desert. There, I worked on small habitat upgrading projects, and finished
my book “Uso, Riuso e Progetto” (roughly “Use, reutilisation
and the re-designing of objects, components and materials, in both developed
and developing countries), published in 2000. This work confronts two opposing
ways of life: our own, based on abundance and strict rules, and on the other
hand the ‘poorer’ lifestyle, based on necessary limitations in
the use of resources and goods, and proposing individual creativity as a major
means of survival (in economic conditions that, statistically speaking, would
not even permit existence).
The love for mountains gave origin to a desire
to talk about it; so I wrote the biography of a young athlete, mountaineer
and mountain rescuer, whose adventures and stories gained the attention of
the media. The region “Carnia” is the background setting to this
story. “Volare Senza Ali” (Flying without wings), published in
2006, was presented to the public in Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Other books lie waiting for publishing, amongst which “Fuga dall’Orizzonte”,
a sort of delirious trip between a dream and an escape. “Qualcosa come”
(Something like), is a collection of novels in the genre noir-surrealistic,
you can find some extracts in this website. “Pieni Poteri” (Full
powers) is another series of tales. The last book which I have been working
on is the extended history of my family.
Another great passion of mine are figurative arts, which is communicated through a variety of ways of expressions. In my earlier years I followed an artistic high school, then a dress designer school and thereafter a sculpture course. Throughout these years I kept painting constantly: portraits and still life paintings, cartoons, drawings for textiles, drawings for artistic glass, ceramics and works in different techniques. There were also a lot of oil landscapes, watercolors, surreal images and abstract pictures.
The sea, the mountains, the shapes of nature
and also of some architectural pieces, the being outside and feeling the atmosphere,
all of this stimulates my desire to confront my complex message with the infinitely
larger message with I receive.
Some paintings and tales were generated from an idea, a place or a dream.
Sometimes absurd and daily situations and the obstacles in their realisation
were the inspirational push behind my novels. Or I re-formulated old tales
told by others, or memories that ended up in tales.
